Businesses, if you’re looking to become more involved in your community then please plan to attend upcoming Corporate Volunteer Council meetings.  We will be meeting at the following dates and times. 

October 10, 7:30 am - 8:30 am, The Volunteer Center of Greensboro                                                      

December 12, 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, The Volunteer Center of Greensboro

All lunch time meetings are brown bag only.  You can eat lunch and learn how your business can connect with the community at the same time.

The Service Learning Impacting Citizenship Camp is happening now! 

This week high school students from all over Guilford County who are leaders in their schools are joining together to see how they can make a difference in this community and around the world.  Each voice counts!

This week they will be learning about the issues that surround the presidental election - the economy, environment, health care, and more.  They students will also have a very special visit from Kay Hagan, who is running for the US Senate from NC.

The summer is passing quickly.  Everywhere you look are displays of school supplies.  That can only mean one thing… It is time for Harvest for Teachers!

Our next meeting is on August 12th at noon at The Volunteer Center.

More than 200 Catholic Youth from eleven states have converged on Greensboro for the third year in a row.  These youth and their sponsors come to give back and put their faith into action during their Catholic Heart Workcamp running July 20-26, 2008.

The average teacher spends $910 a year supplying his/her classroom with needed items. Since 2001, Harvest for Teachers, formerly known as ‘Fill The Bus’ has worked hard to combat this problem. We work with local businesses to meet the teachers’ needs in many ways. This year we are off and running to do the same.

On March 15th, the Volunteer Center hosted the 14th Annual Human Race.  Severe weather threatened to spoil the day, but more than 4,500 people took the chance and came out to raise money for more than 125 local nonprofits.  Their courage was rewarded as not a drop of rain fell from the sky until the event was over.

Money is still trickling in, but so far more than $232,000 was raised!  Even in these tough times, greater Greensboro citizens are extremely generous and do so much to support local nonprofits.  Way to go!!
